New look, new niche, new adventures

Hello friends,

Welcome to the new and improved Amy Takes Pictures blog!  You have probably noticed some changes.  A new logo perhaps.  A new city.  A new niche?  Heck yes.

I am so thrilled to share that I have finally found my way to a photography niche that really lights my fire.  Over the years, while photographing weddings and families, I have had the good fortunate to work with some amazing businesses, bloggers, and brands.  My most exciting and thrilling moments as a photographer has been through this kind of work.  After shooting the Warrior editorial with Doree's Habit, I recall shaking with excitement when going through the raw images after the shoot.  I was floored by the incredible images we'd created together.  I've helped small business owners, makers, and artisans learn how to create their own awesome product photography through workshops I've taught.  I've done some awesome + creative head shots for some pretty fun creative entrepreneurs.  And I've loved. every. second.

After moving to the great city of Toronto and feeling the incredible energy of this city, it became obvious to me that this is the place to build the photography business I've always wanted.  This city is teeming with superbly talented creatives, bloggers, business owners, and entrepreneurs who I cannot WAIT to team up with to create photographic magic.  In addition to working with clients here in Toronto, I will also be available for work in Ottawa and New York City.  I will be working with clients worldwide who have products they want photographed and edited in my own studio (just ship 'em on over folks).  I will be teaching workshops for creative entrepreneurs.  I will be creating stock photography + custom stock photography.  I will be blogging away about optimizing your businesses online presence through awesome images (and tips on how to create said images).  I will be offering photo editing and mock-ups services for clients worldwide.  And whatever comes across my plate along the way.

I cannot wait to share in this new journey with all of you!

Yours,

-  Amy

Keirsten and Ben's Beautiful Sugar Bush Wedding | Ottawa, ON | Wedding Photography

Keirsten and Ben are married!

The wedding took place on July 26th at Temple's Sugar Bush in the Lanark Highlands.  The theme was rustic vintage, with beautiful simple floral arrangements, soft pastel colours, and the great outdoors as their backdrop.

This is their love story, in Keirsten's words:

The Clarkes and the Walkers go way back, you could even say that Ben and I met before we were born. Terri Clarke was the “Welcome-Wagon” representative for the town of Almonte. She showed up on the Walker’s doorstep when they moved to Almonte, and welcomed each new Walker girl as they were born.  When I (Keirsten) was born, Terri (Clarke) showed up again bearing gifts and well wishes – she was 8 months pregnant with Ben at the time. As our mothers already had 3 daughters each that were the same ages, they were sure that Terri was having a girl. They were wrong! Growing up, our families’ paths intertwined, from girl guides, to school, to sports’ teams.

Ben and I met again, years later, when I was finishing teacher’s college. We ran into each other over Christmas at a local pub, and again in the spring when Ben was playing an open Mic in Ottawa. We decided that the universe was trying to push us together, so we got together for a walk in the country one day in the spring. We had no intention of a relationship, as I was moving to England at the summer to teach, but fate intervened. After an adventure-filled year apart, I came home to see where things went with our relationship. The rest is history.

Ben proposed under an old tree on a country road near his childhood home. It is a road that we walked down often, to watch sunsets, to look at the leaves, and to find time to ourselves. Thanksgiving weekend of 2013, when the sky was so blue it was almost blinding, we went for a walk before heading to a family thanksgiving dinner. I was shocked when he dropped to one knee, and when he finally popped the question, I replied with an ecstatic, “Of course!”. We continued walking to savour the moment before heading back to face our families. It could not have been more perfect.

All the best, Keirsten and Ben!
